Advantages
You are able to control everything when you are in a studio, you are able to put the lighting how you want and you don't have to worry about weather, the sun could cause glare or squirting of the model, and wind or rain would ruin hair and make up.
It's much easier to get to a set building that a location that may be far away.
You are able to get your image looking really professional by being able to controls everything.
If photographing animals or children an outside location can be every distracting leading to you not getting any good / professional looking images.
You can have a lot more choice with backgrounds without having to move to multiple different locations, and if choosing to use a green screen the options are endless.
You can take almost as much time as you need to get a great photo that you are able to sell.
Disadvantages
Finding all the equipment needed to get the photograph you are wanting can take a lot of time and money and renting out / buying a studio is very expensive.
Sometimes clients that are being photographed have a set idea in there head of a location that can not be recreated in the studio.
There can be a lot of health and safety risks within a studio, especially with children or animals being photographed.
